ASPIRING SKATEBOARDERS IN SINGAPORE WILL FINALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO CONTEND FOR A PLACE TO REPRESENT SINGAPORE IN THE TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS!
With the inclusion of Skateboarding in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, skateboarders worldwide would finally have a chance to present their performance, passion and culture to the world. The Tokyo 2020 Skateboarding Commission, a collaboration between the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) and the International Skateboarding Federation (ISF) will guide authentic, world-class Skateboarding Competitions.
While many skaters are anti-establishment and anti-commercialism, we need to realize that with less visibility, Skateboarding goes back under the radar, prompting less support from the government, and possibly less facilities once again in Singapore.
With a decrease in facilities in Sg, it would mean less places for us to skate and train in once again, and the criminalization of our passion. Skateboarding has been prevalent in Singapore since the early 1980s, and despite having been in this country for the last 3 decades, our community has faced legislations banning and hindering the pursuance of our passion for years.
Thanks to people like Deputy Prime Minister Tharman and his team, things have started to turn around and the construction of our Taman Jurong Extreme Sports Facility is also progressing nicely.
I am also DELIGHTED to inform you that aspiring skateboarders IN SINGAPORE will finally have a chance to contend for a place to represent Singapore in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics under NSA Singapore Roller Sports Federation (SRF). SRF who is also affiliated with Singapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC) are in talks with Sports Sg to further develop Skateboarding, grooming and preparing our athletes.
A Singapore Skateboarding Committee has also been set up and we will be running National Championships to select the National Squad soon.
THE FUTURE IS NOW, START TRAINING
