Sign this petition for the Singapore government to build an indoor extreme sports facility catering to Skateboarding, Inline, BMX, Mountain Biking, Longboarding and rock climbing.
What is “Extreme Sports”?
Ask any extreme sports practitioner and he/ she will tell you that it is a sports form that challenges the person to be in top form, by facing his/ her fear head-on and challenging his/ her own prowess to the extreme.
Over the past decade, extreme sports have evolved into a worldwide phenomenon that continues to grow rapidly. In Asia, world-class extreme sports facilities are springing up everywhere, allowing these athletes a safe place to practice their sports and perfect their skills.
Despite calling ourselves a sporting hub, Singapore DOES NOT have a world-class extreme sports facility that enables our athletes to engage in their sports in all weather conditions. Current skate parks located in Singapore, fall way below world standards, and when it rains, there is no one place that extreme sports athletes can go.
REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SIGN THIS PETITION:
1. It has been reported by the media that there are “approximately 18,000 extreme sports practitioners in Singapore” and our athletes typically rank as the Top 3 in the regional competitions. Despite winning trophies for Singapore, our unsung heroes are not recognized back home in Singapore, and do not have any facilities that allows them to continue perfecting their skills everyday.
2. Studies done indicate that there is more rainfall between November to January; and the Northeast monsoon season is between December through to March, and the Southeast monsoon season is between June to September. That means, 8 months out of 12 months, extreme sports practitioners have nowhere to go.
Please show your support for our local talent, and empower them with a place to perfect their skill and better represent Singapore in the world arena.
We NEED your support to convince the government to build a sheltered extreme sports facility that empower our athletes with a place to perfect their skill, and better represent Singapore in the world arena.
All we need from you is your VOTE that tells the government that you support our LOCAL TALENTS. Please help to sign our petition and spread the word. Thank you for reading & for showing your support.
